Continuity Editing Exercise

what scenario were you asked to work to?
The film that we filmed was about a character walking in a room and sits down opposite to another character and has a conversation on anything depending on what the story is about.

What were the key media language skills you were to demonstrate?
the key media language skills that we were meant to have in the film was the 180 degree rule, the rule of thirds and match on action. to make the 180 degree rule shot, the camera had to be over my shoulder and on the other shot, the camera had to be on the same side of the other person shoulder, the camera should not pass the line. the rule of thirds is a camera skill where you can film and also take pictures. The rule is that if you are taking a picture of the sky, then the land has to be on the bottom third of the screen but if you are taking a picture or filming the land/sea, the sky has to be on the top third of the screen. the rule of thirds can also be used on a person, it is when the peoples eyes are on the top third of the screen. Match on action is an editing technique where you have one shot and carry it on to another, for example, one shot could be outside a room and a character opening the door to go in the room then the next shot will be from inside the room and the character walking in.

Who did you work with to plan the film?
i worked in a group of three (Ted, Hollie, Sid) to plan the film and we helped each other and threw in ideas on what to film and new ideas for what the story could be and also help on the story board.

How successful was this grouping?
the group was successful in coordinating and working as a team and we knew each-other for a long time so we knew what we all was capable, so we could help each-other if we needed with anything.

How did you use your creativity to develop the scenario?

the scenario was changed from us bring in a stage, wearing mustache and the story also changed because it didn't make much sense, so we planned everything again and made the story more clear and more smooth and we changed to the film being a good cop, bad cop interrogation situation.

How useful was your storyboard? What did you change and what did you stick to?
the story board was really useful and came in handy because it help us on knowing what to do and on what order, also it helped us on knowing what camera angle or shot type it should be. we changes the scene on which we filmed it on, before we filmed it on a stage but then we changed to a room. we stuck to the story even though we changed places we also didn't change the dialogue.
